Rules

The Chilli Sauce Championships is an amateur competition. The public tastes every sauce and scores it from 0 to 5, and the highest average wins.

Who can enter

  • Entries must be homemade. No products that are on sale commercially.
  • Amateurs only. No professional chefs or professional sauce makers.
  • One sauce per person per year.

What you can enter

  • Vegetarian or vegan only. No meat or fish of any kind.
  • No nuts.
  • Declare any other allergens when you enter, so we can label your sauce on the table.

On the day

  • Bring at least 500ml. Entries are decanted into serving bowls for the public to taste.
  • You can vote too, just not for your own sauce.

How the winner is chosen

Visitors score as many sauces as they like, from 0 to 5. Sauces are ranked by their average score, rounded to two decimal places. Equal averages share a place, and a sauce needs a minimum number of votes to be ranked. Places 1 to 5 are the winners and 6 to 10 are the runners up.
