Privacy
This page explains what we keep about you, why, and for how long. We keep as little as we can.
Who we are
The data controller is Pete Ellison, organiser of The Chilli Sauce Championships. Contact: pete@chillisaucecomp.com.
What we keep, and why
- Your name and email, if you enter a sauce, vote at the event, or join the mailing list. We use them to run the competition and, only if you've said yes, to email you about future competitions.
- Your mobile number, if you enter a sauce, so the organiser can reach you about your entry. Only the organisers can see it.
- Your scores, if you vote. Scores are only ever published as totals and averages per sauce. Nobody else can see how you voted.
- Your mailing list consent: when and where you gave it, and when you confirmed it.
- Your maker page, if you enter a sauce: the name you enter under, plus anything you choose to add, like a bio, photo or links. This is public, and you can edit or remove it.
We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. The admin section uses one cookie to keep organisers logged in.
The mailing list
We only add you if you tick the box and confirm by clicking the link we email you. Every email has an unsubscribe link, which works straight away. If you enter a sauce or vote without ticking the box, we won't send you marketing emails.
How long we keep it
Until you ask us to delete it. Competition results (sauce names, maker names and places) stay in the public archive, because that's the history of the competition.
Who else handles it
The site is hosted by Vercel, the database by Neon, and email is sent by Resend. They process data on our behalf, and don't use it for anything else.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you at any time. Email pete@chillisaucecomp.com. If we delete your details, your past scores stay only as anonymous votes in finished competitions. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
